LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

The AVAVA Leadership Development Programme

The AVAVA leadership development model is based on related work in 35 African countries as part of a vision to make a real difference in developing communities in Africa. All over the world and particularly in Africa political and community role players experience increasing pressure to comply with rules of transparency, accountability, integrity and personal competence. The personal preparation of community and political leaders to do their work within a sustainable career, remains in many cases the sole responsibility of the individuals involved. Often, due to a lack of resources community leaders and political role players have to execute their responsibilities with no or limited training and support.

People who do understand community and political systems as well as community leaders and political leaders with suspicious objectives can easily expose new and insensitive political role players to exploitation and temptations. Leaders without a strong basic knowledge of the principles of democratic and accountable representation can be tempted to become part of all kinds of unacceptable political activities. These behavior and processes can develop slowly and over a long period of time.

The AVAVA leadership development programme creates a facility where community and political leaders can be prepared to be aware of the dangers and the potholes of a political career. The curriculum ensure preparation for existing political role players as well as new candidates. Men and women as well as new and young political candidates and politicians will benefit from this project. The emphasis of development is placed on accountability of leaders as well as the need for open and transparent management processes in all societies.

The AVAVA leadership development programme addresses the need for training and development opportunities where community leaders and politicians can prepare for their responsibilities. The training is practical and not link to a prerequisite of any other academic qualifications. The mission is therefore to create community leaders and politicians to be principled driven, accountable and transparent representatives.
